The Weihnachtsmarkt (vie-noks-mart) is an annual fun filled event for families that celebrate the holidays and Cumberland's German heritage. On the first Saturday of December, this event provides food and family oriented entertainment. Visit with Santa, sip some hot cocoa or cider, take a carriage ride around Old Town Cumberland, the Town Christmas Tree Lighting.
Cumberland kicks off the holiday season December 7, 2019 with its 9th Annual Weihnachtsmarkt from 11am to 10pm. This year’s event will feature annual traditions like Reindeer Games for the kids, vendor tent, kid’s crafts, carriage rides, visits with Santa, great food and drink, a tree lighting ceremony, and of course the Flying Toasters. Because that’s not enough fun, this year will bring new additions of selfie stations and a light parade.
Cumberland closes US 40 from Muessing to Carroll Road to bring the holiday fun into the streets of Old Town Cumberland. Santa will arrive at the Gap Meeting House and visit with children throughout the day and a couple of his reindeer will even make an appearance. Children can participate in the Weihnachtsmarkt Scavenger Hunt to get their passport stamped, go through reindeer training to get their antlers, make crafts, get their face painted, and more.
The Flying Toaster are taking the stage at 7pm. But prior to that come check out our expanded vendor tent with 30+ vendors this year from 11am to 6pm. This year we are joined again by Peewinkle's Puppets with Heidi and the Melchior Marionettes. The kids zone hours are 11-5 including bingo in the big tent, crafts, reindeer games on US 40 and free face painting by Willing Hands Designs!! Santa will be there from 12 to 5 in St. Nicolas Haus! The First Baptist Church Handbell Chior will be perfoming at 1:30 in the big tent. We will have live reindeer from 3 to 5. Pull Up Grill, Sero's, and Lochera La Poblaninta will be there dishing up the grub! Riverfront Brewery, RAD (Formerly Flat 12) Brewery and Brandywine Creek Winery will be there pouring the brews and wine. Vogt Farms will be there with their horse drawn carriage giving rides thru town from 11 to 3. Be sure to come hang out with us this year in the heated tents! Remember admission is FREE
