Planning & Development ServicesThe Planning & Development Department oversees Planning & Zoning, Long Range Planning, Building Permits, and Code Enforcement.  Cumberland is a 2 county town.  Properties within Marion County are subject to the City of Indianapolis planning and development services.

Planning & Zoning
The Planning Division focuses on the current planning activities within the Town of Cumberland.  Zoning is the classification of land for specific uses. View the zoning map here. The Department maintains Cumberland's Zoning Ordinances and Zoning map.  Planning staff works with the Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals on these activities:

  • Rezoning Land
  • Zoning Ordinance Amendments
  • Subdivision of Land
  • Development Plan Review
  • Requests for Variances of Developmental Standards
  • Requests for Special Exceptions

The Department is also responsible for the Cumberland Comprehensive Plan which is reviewed and amended annually.  Adopted in 2011, this plan establishes the Town's vision and goals for land use over the next 20 years.
