About the Town
The Town of Cumberland was established in1831 along the National Road. Today the Town straddles the Hancock and Marion County line and has a population of 5,500 and is located on the east side of Indianapolis.
East Washingtong Street, or US 40/Historic National Road, is still a main thoroughfare connecting the Town to Indianapolis and Greenfield. The Town's Historic National Road past is a major platform for future development in the Town.
Cumberland's Park System provides amenities for all residents, whether you want to walk on a trail, have a picnic or just play a game of softball. The system is comprised of three (3) parks: National Road Park, Honors Park, and Lions Park. The Town continues to expand its trail system. The Cumberland Pennsy Trail is designed and funded. The groundbreaking is anticipated in late 2009.
